Tuesday, December 29, 2020: New Year's Festival Prep

Label was visiting today, and wanted me to provide her with a comfy outfit. I ended up just changing into the shirt she gave me, and for the first time I didn't pass with flying colors - she didn't even give me one of her special items!

Sydney was again speaking about the end of the year... and again, I really don't feel it went by so fast this year!

Accidentally, I ended up making this plump Snowboy. Oops. :) I also tried holding my cider I had ordered.

I forgot you can learn about the cultural items, so I did a little reading up. I've seen a few videos on YouTube discussing the Japanese New Year festivities, which has been fascinating!

Speaking of trivia, here's some fun Nintendo history from 51 Clubhouse Games:

So speaking of New Year's Eve, as I was skimming an article last night to see when the event starts in Animal Crossing, I decided to follow one of its suggestions and put up some decorations around the plaza. I first had to move all these flowers out of the way, but here's the general idea I was planning on: using clocks for the time motif and fun toys dotted around the plaza, just as something to do.

Several minutes of inventory management later, I decided to put down a nice pavement as well. I went for this lighter grey color to suit a wintery vibe.

I headed to the shop to pick up a few more items based on my planned theme.

I wanted to finally build the pile of presents I got on Christmas Eve, and I was missing cardboard boxes. Finally, a use for the recycling bin in Resident Services! This thing is useless otherwise, I suppose apart from local co-op play...

I didn't use these today, but when I was looking at all the things I could customize, I discovered some of the things I got from Turkey Day could be customized to a springtime aesthetic instead of an autumnal one. Very neat! I suppose I can do a lot more this upcoming spring on the island!

I also got Nook Miles for customizing items - I just thought it was funny my first milestone was back in March, probably during the first chance I could customize things! (I suppose I could go check back in this blog...)

Anyways, here's the final look of my decorations from this morning! I'm quite happy with it; I was thinking of a Christmas market I saw in Tokyo on YouTube (I was hoping I had the Tokyo tower to include!). However, you can see how I incorporated the New Year's items into the build. It was really fun to design something outdoors again! I think it captures a fun festive feel that will be great to have up for our big virtual New Year's Eve! May as well make it grand since we aren't meeting in-person or anything this year!
