Friday, January 1, 2021: New Year's Day

I was a bit worried about today when I saw things seemed more or less back to normal on the title screen when it showed an emptier plaza. Isabelle and Tom Nook must've worked hard cleaning up after the event (to be fair I also cleared out my set last night too at 2am to hear the jazz trio playing for the background music!). However, Isabelle did wish me a Happy New Year at the start, as well as when I headed into Resident Services! There was also special music playing, as in the past games (hint hint for my new arrangement/cover... :P) (I also thought I'd share Marissa's lovely post she wrote last night.)

The kiosk basically gave me free miles since the building was inaccessible. And when I checked the seasonal items, I was not disappointed: there were a ton of new things! A unique archway of golden balloons (that is 2,021 Bells for the year!), several Japanese cultural items, and the zodiac item that I suppose began its trend in City Folk with the custom shirts! It's nice to know the tradition of special yearly items has continued, as it gives incentive for players to keep checking back - I've missed so many City Folk shirts since I don't actually have access to the game right now! But there you go - it's nice the window to get these items is greatly lengthened, so grab them while you can before the 15th!

When I headed back outside, even though at first my villagers' dialogue was normal, they did mention the New Year as well.

The two snowballs were right in line in their usual suspect spot, and my first Snowboy of the year was perfect! Great start after my recent slip-ups.

While I was selling fruit from the orchard, I thought about the possibility of tearing it all down once I've fully paid off my debt, so I could have a blank space to work with later on this year. I already basically have two rooms of my house that are temporary, so I can continue to do what I like with them (for example, the Mario furniture once it's available!). It'll be nice to keep some spots on the island for smaller builds I can do, seeing as the whole island's layout is probably never going to change from here.

And finally, I noticed the festive decorations on the town hall building and Nooklings' store were taken down. I guess the festive season has ended... Well, we still have Festivale to look forward to! You bet I'm waiting for Nintendo to drop an update video soon! I'm wondering if future updates this year will be akin to City Folk's DLC they were releasing through 2012, I believe.

Most likely, I'll be posting my special Animal Crossing Christmas/New Years cover tomorrow, based on music from the GameCube game. There's still plenty of Animal Crossing fun to be had! Speaking of which, while I logged on in the evening to get some footage that would fit with the older Animal Crossing screenshots I had, I saw the sun shining brilliantly in the sky as it set! It was really cool, as if the sun was saying "happy New Year" or something!
