I discovered this trailer for an Animal Crossing RPG! It sounded very intriguing, and decided to take 25-30 minutes to check it out as a "demo" of sorts (much like the demos of Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default I have on my Switch). Hopefully sometime in the future, I can record some videos or livestream me completing the whole thing; it claims to take 4-10 hours to complete, so it's really long!
What makes this different than New Hyrule or other maze/puzzle islands I've been to or seen is there's a story element outside of the gameplay - see the Google Form link in the description of the trailer video for more details on that. I dressed in a green outfit and I play the Hero. You can see in the text box I have to enter the item name in order to progress.
I took a picture of the map in-game, but there's a map featured in the Google Form that's arguably even better, showing the specific names of locations characters in the story mention. I love how the dialogue boxes for this story use the New Horizons text bubbles and font.
The story also helped guide me where to go: try to find the library so I can find a way into the castle. I did some of my own exploring as well - the whole island lags a lot, perhaps especially since for today I'm playing in handheld mode. But it's still really cool and crammed full of detail! I wonder what lore is hidden around here!
Yes, I would like some weapons, please. :P
I loved the checkerboard and imperial palace vibes from this big castle area. This seems like my ultimate goal, but everything is blocked off for now.
I found this scene along the beach. I wonder if these are the enemies of the map? Again, I'll have to spend some time playing to get through the story sometime in the future.
I did have to look at the solution, which was related to this book stack here... I'd thought there was a hint there! I won't spoil it, but I was led through a path to this incredible library built with the same "outdoor building" tricks I've seen on other islands.
At this really incredible-looking library I'm appreciating through this picture, I met the Sage (and progressed to Chapter 2!) My second quest was to locate a ladder, which will of course make navigating around easier. This is where I closed the book, so to speak, for today.
(I'll clean up those pictures later...)
If I end up with video footage of this island, I'll post it here! I'd love to return and go through the entire story. Be sure to give the creator a follow - this certainly brought me back to the game for a little bit!
