From the Library

Our fall Scholastic book fair was a big success with over $6000 in sales!  We will use the proceeds to purchase new books for our school library.  It was great to see so many families at the fair and we really appreciate your support!

From Band and Orchestra

Band and orchestra students have their first informational performance "Informance" this week and you are invited! Orchestra will be on Wednesday, November 2nd; Band on Thursday, November 3rd. Both events are at Columbine High School in the gym and will begin at 7 PM. We will be showing students' families what we have learned so far, and hosting a little reception afterwards so you can stick around and talk to some of your students if you'd like.

Helping Others Can Change the World

Businesses should always help people. Businesses should help people because based on your idea you can help people, help the environment and not mention you can earn money.

For example,in “Dollars and Sense”,  Blake Mycoskie knows a good business is not always about making money or selling things. Blake traveled to Argentina in 2006. He also visited poor villages. A majority of the people did not have shoes. Blake wanted to do something to help change that. He said in “Dollars and Sense”, “” I’m going to start a shoe company, and for every pair I sell, I’m going to give one pair to a kid in need.””  He made his own innovative business called TOMS: Shoes for Tomorrow. He is making money while helping people and kids in need.

Another example is, in “Kids in Business, Joshua Williams created an organization that gives and donates food to hungry people. Local businesses help by giving them some extra food to donate. Joshua would also like to make a community garden. He is helping people and is one of the youngest foundation presidents in the world.

Similarly, Anna Azevedo likes to help the environment, she is very passionate.

She noticed that most drinking glasses can not be recycled. She wanted to find a way to reuse them. She found a way that is nature- friendly and uses them in a smart way. Her solution is based on biology. She plants plants in the cups and uses them as a kind of vase. She says in “Kids in Business”, “” Plants basically work for you. They purify the air and take out all the bad stuff.”” She sells her plants online. She is helping the environment and making people happy with the plants.

Kids in Business says, “Cecilia Cassini is an exceptional young designer who makes clothes for kids and teens.”

She started making clothes for her sister and her friends. Word got around and her mom’s friend helped her get her business up and running. “She often donates dresses she has made to raise funds for charity.” Kids in Business say, “ After all, trends come and go but helping others never goes out of style.”

In summation, you, businesses, and others should help others. Contributing to others makes a difference in their life and in yours. A small idea can have big effects on the world.

My sources of information came from Wonders. The articles are, “Kids in Business” and “Dollars and Sense.”
