Trade Directories can play an important part in our history. They can often contain information not readily available in other records. There are quite often some detailed notes about the town or village. For instance the 1822 Baines Directory, for the Liversedge area, gives an excellent summary of the Luddite's attack of Cartwright's mill in 1812.Â
Meaningful census records didn't begin until 1841, so directories before this time are particularly useful and help to piece together our ancestors past.
