Located on the main Leeds to Huddersfield Road on the boundary with Mirfield. A handy spot for traveling traffic of the day. No longer a public house, closing down some years ago and is now a private residence.
21 Aug 1839 - Brewster Sessions - Mr William Robertshaw of Hightown, made application for a licence to a house situated upon the new diversion of the Birstal and Huddersfield road. The nearest public house was the Yew Tree, it being half a mile distant. A licence was granted to the house but not the applicant as he had encouraged gambling in a public house that he had recently kept.

23 Aug 1869 - Brewster Sessions - Annual session for the granting and renewal of licences was held at Dewsbury. It being the first session in which the new Wine and Beer Act was put in force. The licence for Benjamin Blakeley of the Fountain Inn was granted without any objection.
