3 May 1888 - At a meeting held at the Wesleyan Chapel (Northgate). It was proposed to erect a new chapel in a field at Whitcliffe. The front of the chapel would be in Whitcliffe Lane and schools would be underneath it. The cost of the land and building would be about £6000, of which £1500 had already been realised. The chapel would seat 850 worshipers. The architect was Mr. Howarth. Those present agreed to the idea. The location of the site was known as Ash House Field.
21 May 1888 - Plans approved by the Cleckheaton Local Board for the erection of a new Wesleyan Chapel in Whitcliffe Lane.
29 Sep 1888 - After meeting at the Northgate Wesleyan Chapel, friends and scholars, headed by the Cleckheaton Victoria brass band marched to the location where the foundation stone was laid by Mr William Anderton. Other memorial stones were laid by Mr Joseph Sykes, Mrs Dawson, Mrs Harvey Kemp and Mr John W. Stocks of Cleckheaton; by Mrs Earnshaw of Southport on behalf of Mr Stocks, her father, a life-long member of the society, who could not attend by reason of infirmity; by Alderman Smith of Burslem; by Mrs Wilkinson on behalf of the young women's select class in the Sunday School; by Miss Midgley for the female teachers; by Mr George Hartley for the male teachers and the School Superintendents (Messrs. Jonas Stead and Hiram Midgley) on behalf of the scholars. There was a very large attendance and tea was served to 1000 persons at Providence Place school afterwards.
2 Oct 1889 - Opening services of the chapel. Special sermons were preached by the Rev. C.H. Kelly, President of the Conference amidst a good attendance. Prior to the service, the Rev. Samuel Lock, the minister stationed at Cleckheaton, announced that the chapel had been registered for marriages and that in excess of half the cost of the building had already been raised.
11 Aug 1901 - After several weeks of being closed for re-decoration of the chapel, a re-opening service was held by the Rev. Beardmore of London. Contractors for the decoration was by Mr H. Taylor of Heckmondwike.
