Public houses

Listed in the side menu (or the buttons below) are names and brief histories of public houses found around the Spen Valley area, along with some items of trivia including past owners and licensees. Some, you will recognise immediately, others may have long since gone and may not be so obvious. This is a "work in progress" project and hopefully more establishments will be added in due course.  

In the distant past, pubs were not just drinking and social establishments. They often held meetings, auctions for property and were also used for inquests into sudden deaths with the body of the deceased on show!
