Shoulder of Mutton

Located at Hightown Heights just below St. Barnabas church. No longer in existence and was demolished for new housing. According to a court case in 1871 the pub had been a public house for 60 years with no convictions during that time.

1803 - Alehouse Licence - Granted to Samuel Hall. Premises not named but evidence suggests it was here

1822 - Baines Trade Directory - Shoulder of Mutton, Hightown. Landlord recorded as Samuel Hall.

1830 - Baines Trade Directory - Shoulder of Mutton, Hightown. Landlord recorded as Thomas Pickles.

7 May 1838 - Newspaper Article - Meeting held at the Shoulder of Mutton regarding dividends of an assignment. House of Thomas Pickles.

4 Sep 1840 - Marriage - At Whitechapel, Robert Pinder of the Pack Horse inn, to Mrs Norcliffe of the Shoulder of Mutton, Hightown.

23 Aug 1869 - Brewster Sessions - Annual session for the granting and renewal of licences was held at Dewsbury. It being the first session in which the new Wine and Beer Act was put in force. The licence for Henry Wood of the Shoulder of Mutton Inn was granted without any objection.
