Both the Old & New Pack Horse pubs are located on the crossroads of what would have been the main turnpike road from Leeds to Elland and also that from Wakefield to Halifax, these two pubs are opposite each other. It is not clear as to which is the oldest and one would assume that the "Old" one is, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. Early records do not seem to differentiate between "Old" and "New" and are just referred to as The Pack Horse, or not even named at all. Even though the two pubs are adjacent to each other, the Old Pack Horse was located in the Clifton parliamentary ward and the New Pack Horse was in the Cleckheaton ward. With this in mind, I have hopefully resolved which records relate to which pub.
