Located just outside of the village and was closed as a pub on 13 Dec 1919. The original building still stands, although much altered and now forms part of what is a care home.
The name of the premises is likely to stem from the owner of the premises, who was Sir Joseph Radcliffe who received his Baronetcy in 1813 after waging a personal vendetta against the Luddites having become a magistrate with the reputation of being heavy handed. He was present when 3 of the suspected Luddite attackers of Cartwrights mill were hanged at York.
