A map from about 1851 showing just how isolated Heaton House was at this time. The road to the bottom is Upper Lane which later was renamed as Westgate.
Located between Hill Street and Peaseland Road just below Burnup Grove (which is likely to be named after one of the past occupants).
The premises cannot be identified in the 1841 census but both William Holdsworth and Thomas Burnup (later identified occupants) were residing in the same area.
In 1851 the resident was Mary Holdsworth, the widow of William Holdsworth, who had died the previous year.

Mary died a year later and a gravestone located at Whitechapel church bears the following inscription:

Also of Mary, wife of the above William Holdsworth, who departed this life April the 13th 1852, aged 62 years.
In 1861 the residents are now Thomas Burnup and his wife Ann, who was the sister of the above Mary Holdsworth. Thomas was originally from Huddersfield and was well-known locally being in the banking trade. He was also quite often very critical of the Cleckheaton Local Board and even took them to court, and won his case, over a matter regarding his property.

The premises do not appear in the 1891 Census, but electoral registers show from 1894 to 1899, that John Tetlow of Britannia Mills and later partner of Critchley, Sharp & Tetlow, was residing here in one part of the building. The other part of the house, during the same period, is occupied for short periods by various clergymen.
In 1901 one part of the premises is lived in by Arthur William Blackburn, who was the son of William Blackburn, worsted spinner of Clarence & Brook Mills and had previously resided at Wilton House; the other part by Reuben Castle, a well-known architect, whose plans were used for the likes of Nook Chapel, Central Chapel & Whitcliffe Road School:

In 1915, the Cooper family had left to reside at Marsh House. Charles Roberts Bentley, as well as the above William Ewart Sugden are now residing here. Charles Roberts Bentley married Margaret Ann Sugden, William Ewart's sister.
