The graveyard at Christ Church is quite unique. In the grounds around the church, all the stones are of the same design and are made from a stone that hasn't lasted the weathering of time. Many are very eroded and quite unreadable. Some of the stones have inscriptions on the front and rear and some are placed very close to others which are obviously connected. It has also come to light that there are several stones that have the completely wrong information engraved onto them. An extension graveyard was later added but many of the stones located here have been moved and are just laying flat and in piles around the border.
The following inscriptions are kindly provided by Gordon Hodgson, who photographed the stones in 2017. Many of these also feature on a Facebook group relating to inscriptions that can be found at this location. Many of the entries on this group have a "potted" family history relating to those who feature on them. The group can be found HEREÂ
Where more than one surname appears on the stone, then the entry is duplicated to each one.
