3 Mar 1910 - Bradford Brewster sessions - Police objected to several Cleckheaton licences. One being that of the Golden Lion, tenanted by Amos Nicholson. The objection was on the grounds that the number of public houses in the district was greatly in excess of requirement. It was stated that the property was situated in Cross Crown Street, leading from the railway station. The Royal was only 39 yards away, The Old Oak Inn 96 yards away and the Old House at Home 88 yards. The property consisted of two cottage houses which had been converted into a public house. The rooms were badly arranged, the filling bar being in the living kitchen. Although in the heart of the town, nothing was done at the house in the shape of catering; there was no stabling and no frontage for vehicles. Matter referred to the Compensation Authority.
7 Jun 1910 - Licence Refused - At Wakefield, on the sitting of the West Riding Licensing Authority, the licence for the Golden Lion Inn, Cleckheaton, was refused on the ground of non-necessity and the dirty condition of the house. A footnote to the article states that Mr George Bentley, landlord of the Golden Lion, requests to state that his house is not in a dirty condition now, and has not been since he took possession in January last.
Jul 1910 - Compensation - An award of £672 was made under the Licensing Act for the withdrawal of the licence at the Golden Lion.
4 Jan 1911 - Auction - At the Golden Lion, Cleckheaton, in consequence of the house being closed by the Compensation Authorities, the whole of the fixtures, fittings and utensils. Sale to commence at 11.30am prompt.
1911 - Brewery - Sold by Richard Holmes & Sons.
