During 1989 the Spenborough Guardian featured a series of articles written by Maurice Popplewell and describes the news and events and what life was like in the Spen Valley during the early part of that century.
Maurice Popplewell was a well-known local historian and collected a vast amount of information and photographs through his life. Following his death, his family made his work available to the public and presented his collection to Cleckheaton library, where it is today, still available for viewing.
