Whether you are religious or not, places of worship played an important part in the history of the Spen Valley which had a wide and varied following.
I hope to add these various places, along with a brief history of their existence. As with public houses, some are still going strong, others have long disappeared.
Anyone wishing to research their family history has to very much rely on records held by churches and chapels. In time, I hope to add some of these records to this site.
To explore the churches and chapels recorded on this site, click the Church of England or Non-Conformist boxes below.
When Civil Registration commenced in 1837 it also became possible for couples to marry at Register Offices. The details recorded under the "Register Offices" button relate to marriages with a Spen Valley connection.
For anyone interested in family history, I have a viewable tree that contains many local Spen Valley families: https://spenvalley.tribalpages.com
