Notice is hereby given that all persons who may have any claims or demands upon the estate or effects of Joseph Butterfield, late of Scholes, in the Parish of Birstall in the County of York, innkeeper, deceased, are requested to send an account of the same, with the nature of their securities (if any) to William Sharpe of Scholes, card maker - and such persons as stood indebted to the said Joseph Butterfield, at the time of his decease, are requested to pay their respective debts to the said William Sharpe, otherwise actions in law will be commenced for the recovery of the same.

NB - The premises are located between Field Top and Mount Pleasant in the records. Emmanuel Squire later takes on the Walker's Arms at Scholes.
20 Jun 1861 - Court Case - Emmanuel Squires, beer-house keeper of Scholes was convicted of permitting gambling in his house. Fined £2 and costs.
20 Apr 1896 - Court Case - Henry Butterfield, innkeeper of Scholes, was convicted of selling adulterated (watered down) whiskey and was fined 20s and costs.
