George & Dragon

Another pub that is no more. Believed to have closed down in the 1960s. It was located at 46 Westgate, opposite the bottom of Hightown New Road. Westgate was once known as Upper Lane.

24 Mar 1910 - Court Case - Emma Smith, landlady of the George & Dragon Inn, Westgate, was charged with opening her house outside of permitted hours. It was stated she had kept the house for 8 years, four years along with her husband who was born there. The evidence given by the police was insufficient to prove the charge and the case was dismissed.
