It took a while  to see this project come to life. The original proposition was to build a Walmart Supercenter on this site. In the end, Walmart decided to expand their existing Brunswick store and transform it into a Supercenter. This decision opened the door to a different project for this property located right along I-295. The project called Topsham Crossing was born. Plans were unveiled and proposed a Target store with space for up to three other stores, or one that could be 90,000 sq.ft. and two pad sites. 

Topsham Crossing is located near Home Depot on an extension of Topsham Fair Mall Road. Target opened in spring 2006. Other store were still under construction back then. Bed, Bath & Beyond, Petco and Dick's Sporting Goods eventually opened not long after Target. The land at left of the new center and the other lot between Target and the Topsham Fair Mall was eventually developed as Topsham Landing. A block of small stores was built on a pad site in front of Dick's.

In 2016, it was announced Bed,Bath & Beyond would be relocating from their Topsham location to the Merrymeeting Plaza in nearby Brunswick. Dollar Tree eventually moved out of the nearby Topsham Landing to open in a space on the right of Dick's Sporting Goods.
