This plaza is pretty simple, it has two stores. It opened around 1984-85 with a Zayre store on the right and Shop’n Save supermarket on the left. This was one of the last new Zayre store built in northern New England. At one point, Shop’n save went through an expansion, adding nearly 15,000 sq. ft. to the store. Zayre was re-branded to Ames after the acquisition of the company by Ames.
The original Ames serving the tri-city area used to be nearby in Somersworth at the Tri-City plaza. That store closed and the larger Dover store served the region from then. Ames went out of business in 2002 and the store closed in October of that year. The former Ames has been vacant ever since.
Below is the view inside the vacant Ames store with the green checkout counters from Ames still there.
