CAPITOL SHOPPING CENTER

  • Address: 50 Storrs Street

  • City: Concord, NH

  • Opening Date: Unknown

Capitol Shopping Center opened during the 60’s in Downtown Concord NH. It was then anchored by Emmons, Stop & Shop and J.J.Newberry. Britt's Department stores soon replaced J.J.Newberry.

Howland's replaced Emmons but that store eventually moved to the Steeplegate Mall as Steinbach in 1990. Britt's closed in 1979 and became Zayre. Ames replaced Zayre in the early 1990's. The former Howland's was subleased by Jo-Ann Fabrics and Fashion Bug. Rite Aid closed in July 1998. Marshalls was added in 1999 and the plaza was renovated shortly after. The Ames was completely renovated in with wide aisles, bright lighting and a new layout.

Ames closed in October 2002 leaving a 77,000 sq.ft of space available. Burlington Coat Factory finally opened in the former Ames. In 2012, the NH Liquor Store that is in a building adjacent to the plaza will move into the plaza itself in the former Fashion Bug. As of 2021, the property site plan shows that Burlington has downsized to 42,014 sq.ft. leaving an available space of 35,000 sq.ft.
