FAIRBANKS PLAZA

This 172,924 sq.-ft plaza was built in 1958. It used to be called Keene Plaza and was anchored by Grants. The store eventually moved to the Riverside Plaza in 1966. Giant opened to replace it in the 70's. The store closed and was replaced by King's. That store closed in 1983 and became a supermarket which also closed.

The entire plaza was rebuilt into the Kmart Plaza in 1995 with a brand new 94,841 sq.ft Kmart store. Cherry & Webb closed in 2000 and in 2003 it was divided into Bond auto parts.

According to a 2004 Sears press release, the Kmart store in Keene is part of the 50 acquired in 2004. The store along with two other NH stores was eventually converted to a new off-mall mid-sized Sears concept similar to Sears Grand called Sears Essentials.

The former Kmart storefront has been repainted blue for Sears Essentials. Sears Essentials was later re-branded as "Sears" but the store was closed for good in April 2012.

Aspen Dental has moved to Riverside Plaza. Kohl's opened in part of the former Sears in September 2013. The stores uses roughly 57,000 sq.ft out of the 91,000 sq.ft of the former Sears. The plaza was acquired by Unison Realty Partners in October 2014.

The remaining part of the former Sears is now filled by a new Aldi Food Market which is using about 20,000 sq.ft of space to the right of Kohl's and another part is now a Famous Footwear.
