STORY:

Fair play. Good Value. Service. Affordability. Quality. You will find all of this and more at Renys!. They are a chain of small discount stores throughout Maine that have been a part of the state's culture since 1949. It was at this time Robert H. Reny opened the first store in Damariscotta, ME. His philosophy was simple - offer great value, make great buys of better merchandise and sell at the lowest possible price to his customers! This philosophy continues today as "RH" is still involved in the business, buying goods for the stores.

The stores are all small to medium sized, each with its own unique character. You'll find everything including, Carhartt jeans, Woolrich sweaters, Chippewa boots, all kinds of clothing, outerwear by famous makers, electronics, housewares, lawn and garden supplies, sheets and towels, and an awesome .99 department. If you need it, you can probably find it at Renys. As a matter of fact, it has been said, "If Renys doesn't have it, I don't need it!" It's always fun to shop for summer items outside the storefront in a hot summer day like the pictures shown below.   

COMMENTARY:

Reny's is a nice department store chain. They offer an array of goods at great prices. RenyMs opened a new store in half of the former Ames store in Wells Maine. They also moved their Biddeford location to the former Shaw's at the Saco Valley Shopping center. Sadly, Reny's founder Robert H. Reny, passed away on July 24 2009. In 2011, the company opened a brand new store at the Topsham Fair Mall and one in downtown Portland.  In April 2016, Reny's opened a store at the Windham Mall in North Windham. In 2025, Reny's opened a new store in a former JCPenney in Waterville Maine. Later that year, Reny's announced the closure of the Portland location but also announced a new store coming up in a former Big Lots in Augusta. It opened in October 2025.
