EAST SIDE PLAZA

This shopping center is set away from the major commercial district of South Willow street. I was told that the first anchor store was Lord's. It then was anchored by Rich's department stores and had an Alexander's Supermarket. That chain was acquired by Hannaford which renamed the store to its Shop'n save supermarket banner.

Rich's closed its doors in early 1997. Ames moved in shortly after. Ames had also operated a store in a former Zayre on Elm street until it closed in early 1993. Ames went out of business and the store closed in October 2002.

In July 2004, the store remained vacant as pictured above. In November 2005, Building 19 made a comeback to Manchester with the opening of a new store in the former Ames. In November 2013, Building 19 filed for Chapter 11 and then closed all stores
