HOOD COMMONS

This center opened in 1968 and used to be called the Hood Plaza.  It was anchored by Giant Department store and Shaw's. Giant closed in 1973 and became Ames in 1974. Shaw's relocated to a bigger store in 1988. The plaza underwent a renovation in 1989-1990. Decelle replaced what I believe what was the old Shaw's. Shaw's was remodeled in 1995. Fayva closed in 1995. Decelle closed in 1998. Decelle was replaced by Big Lots in 1998.

Rite Aid moved out during 1998 to a bigger free-standing location. Book Corner closed in 1999 and was replaced by a Hallmark store. Shaw's added 20,000 sf. by expanding into the vacant Rite aid in 2000. The supermarket now has 67,221 sf. of space. Jo-Ann Fabrics closed in 2002. Ames closed its doors in October that year after the bankruptcy of the company. The store was 50,000 sq.-ft and remained available for a while. The space is now filled by Tractor Supply and Planet Fitness with 10,000 sf. still available.

The 209,138 sq.ft. shopping center has been acquired by WP Realty in June 2006. In 2012 Fashion Bug announced it would closes all of its stores including the Derry location.
