COMMENTARY:

Home Depot entered New England like a storm. The area had been dominated by regional and small hardware store chains for years. Names like Wickes Lumber, Grossman's, Somerville, Home Quarters (HQ), Aubuchon, Ace, True Value, and others were part of the landscape. When Home Depot arrived, many of these chains went out of business. Meanwhile, Home Depot opened stores at a steady rate in Maine and New Hampshire, and today, most major cities and town have their Home Depot. The most recent opening was a new location in Windham on the Winham Mall property.
