KMART PLAZA

This is the second largest shopping plaza in West Lebanon. It was built in late 1976. The shopping center is located just across the Upper Valley Mall.  The main anchor is a 106,000 sq.ft. Kmart store. The store was expanded by 40,000 sq.ft in early 1990's. There is also a Tjmaxx at the other end of the "L shaped" shopping center.

The store opened in 1999 in two vacant spaces.  Kmart still has the old entrance style but was remodeled when it expanded. Chili's eventually opened in the parking lot. Kmart used to compete with Rich’s, then Ames and now Kohl’s at the nearby Upper valley Mall. Walmart also has a store nearby in that busy tax-free shopping area close to Vermont. In May 2017, Payless Shoesource announced the closing of 387 U.S. stores including the West Lebanon location. The Kmart pharmacy also closed that year. When two other Kmart stores in NH closed in February 2020, the West Lebanon store became the only Kmart left in Northern New England. In May 2020, Kmart started to announce job openings to help close the West Lebanon store. In December 2020, it was revealed that Target filed plans to replace the former Kmart. The store would use 86,000 of the 106,000 sq.ft. available.
