ROCKLAND PLAZA

This plaza is old and has been around since the early 70s. The Grocery store anchor at the plaza originally was a First National supermarket and Grants was on the left side of the plaza. In the 80's Shop'n Save and JCPenney built stores in the Rockland Plaza. In July 1985, the Rich's department store chain announced they would build a brand new store at Rockland Plaza. Construction started and also included expanding Shop'n Save to 42,000 sq.ft.  In September 1985, Rich's cancelled the plans

Also in the late 80's Classic cuts and Electrolux moved to the plaza. By 1990, the main stores were Shop'n Save, JCPenney, Classic Cuts, and Electrolux. In the early 90's Subway opened up in the plaza. Also in the early 90's Shop'n Save was renamed Super Shop'n Save open 24 hours a day except Sundays. In 2002, the supermarket was rebranded again to Hannaford. It one of the few Hannafords in Maine opened 24 hours a day 6 days a week.

An expansion project exists for the Rockland Plaza, it can be seen here. In March 2017, JCPenney announced the closure of 138 stores including the Rockland location. Planet Fitness will open in part of the former JCPenney. The front of the former department store has been renovated and an updated pylon sign was installed at the plaza.
