ROCK ROW (THE RIDGE WESTBROOK)

This future shopping center will be located in Westbrook, Maine on the edge of Portland on the former site of a quarry. The 500,000-square-foot shopping center was approved by the planning board back in October 2016.  Initially, the project was to be 580,000 sq.ft. and was called Dirigo Plaza.

Initial plans of the center were showing 6 large buildings and smaller structures.  One of the large building was shaped and labeled as a warehouse club which sparked some rumors that Costco could be an anchor store in the project.  The plans were then modified and eventually it was announced that Walmart would become the 180,000 sq.ft anchor store at the plaza.

99 Restaurant & Pub and  Chick-fil-A restaurant were later confirmed. In March 2017, the developer added a new partner in the project, Waterstone Retail Development, who are involved in several centers in the northeast.  It was announced that the project would not be developed in two phases not three.

In November 2017, Walmart pulled out of the project and Waterstone announced that Market Basket confirmed it would replace it, making the store the second of the chain in Maine.  Market Basket proposed a 80,000 sq.ft. store. The project was eventually revised and reshaped into a mixed-use  lifestyle center with urban living, dining, entertainment, wellness, recreation and hospitality.
