SEABROOK COMMONS

In 2008, Developers Diversified Realty (DDR) proposed a large open air shopping center on Lafayette Road in Seabrook, right behind McDonald's on a 47 acres parcel. DDR has faced significant opposition to its proposed center from residents afraid of the added traffic to nearby roads. Its plans initially were turned down by the Planning Board because the developer was unwilling to make road improvements that town officials felt were necessary to accommodate additional traffic from the development.

DDR and the town eventually worked out a settlement to improve roads in partnership with the town and the state. Target was to be the anchor store and got approved but withdrew when the rest of the project stalled. In 2012, a revised plan was now showing a possible 190,365 sq.ft. Walmart Supercenter to anchor the project along with ten other stores. In 2013 it was confirmed that Walmart would move in and leave its old location in the Seacoast Shopping Center.

For summer 2014, the center added Dick's, Michaels, Ulta, FiveBelow, Famous Footwear, Kay, Petsmart and Panera Bread. In April 2017, Rue 21 announced the closure of 400 stores including the Seabrook location.
