DOLLAR TREE PLAZA (Shaws Plaza)

This plaza began years ago with a Bonneau's Supermarket. This store was part of a future plaza to be called Town & Country shopping center.  In 1963, a U.S.Post Office opened on the property in a free-standing building along South Avenue.

In 1970, Bonneau's Supermarket relocated its existing store to a new 21,000 sq.-ft building located further back at Bonneau Shopping Plaza. In June 1970, LaVerdiere's opened in part of the former Bonneau's market. Uncle Sam Country Store, a gift shop and a card shop opened in the rest of the building.

In July 1988, Shaw’s relocated from The Promenade Mall to a brand new free-standing building at the plaza. The property included the Super Shaw’s, Goodwill store and/or Blockbuster Video. In the spring 2003, Shaw’s relocated again to a larger, more modern store right across the Lewiston Mall on East Avenue.

Meanwhile, Dollar Tree opened a store in the former Lisbon Street Shaw's.  A part of the old Shaw's stayed vacant for a while. Eventually, this space was filled by Chapter 11, a Maine-based closeout chain. McDonald's recently opened a restaurant in the property's parking lot to replace an aging location down the road.

Above is the former Super Shaw's divided in two stores: Dollar Tree and a future space for Chapter 11 on the left.
