FALMOUTH SHOPPING CENTER

The plaza opened in 1961 with a King's Department store. The store closed in December 1982 and was replaced by Rich's in 1983. The other main tenants were Shaw's supermarket and Rite Aid pharmacy.  Rich's closed the Falmouth store after it filed for bankruptcy.  Ames stepped in and acquired the store as well as two other vacant Rich's locations in 1997 (West Lebanon, NH and St. Johnsbury, VT). Ames opened the stores during that summer.  Below is a picture showing the Rich's signage on top of the store labeled ad being Ames.

In December 2001, Ames decided to close 54 stores in a plan to emerge from reorganization as promptly as possible. The Sanford and Falmouth stores were closed in March 2002. Shaw's relocated it's old store to the larger vacant Ames space. The former Shaw's remained available for some time. Ocean State Job Lot opened in the former Shaw's in October 2017 after spending $1.3 million to renovate the space. In March 2018, the shopping center was sold to a new owner which wanted to evict Ocean State Job Lot. In August 2018, Ocean State Job Lot won a court ruling to stay at the shopping center.
