with everything open and ready to go, let's get started. =)

open the template and resize the canvas to 750px by 650px.

delete the following layers:

copyright

dotted outline

strip 1 & 2

wordart 1

add a new raster layer above the background layer and select all.

open paper05 from the kit and copy.

paste into selection on the new raster layer and select none.

apply the mask at default settings.

right click on the mask layer to merge the mask group.

open the heartscatters element and resize by 80%.

copy and paste (C/P) it as a new layer above the paper05 mask layer.

pull it up to the top portion of the mask.

duplicate, mirror and flip it.

position it further down if you like/need to.

merge down so both heartscatters are one layer.

merge down wordart2 with the dotted lines layer.

add a new raster layer above the merged layer and select all.

open paper04 from the kit and copy.

paste into selection on the new raster layer.

click on the merged layer and float/defloat/invert selection.

hit delete on the paper04 layer and select none.

hide the merged layer.

now add a new raster layer above the grey rectangle and select all.

open a paper of your choice and copy.

paste into selection on the new raster layer.

click on the grey rectangle layer and float/defloat/invert selection.

hit delete on the paper and select none.

hide the grey rectangle layer.

repeat the steps with the following layers:

*all with papers of your choice*

white rectangle layer

large circle

circle 1, 2 & 3

now for the tube.

open the tube and copy.

paste it at 100%.

place it to the left of the white rectangle layer.

once in position, add a drop shadow to the tube.

duplicate the tube.

make the following selection:

CLICK IMAGE FOR LARGER PREVIEW

hit delete on the top tube layer.

invert your selection and hit delete on the bottom tube layer.

select none.

now unhide the white rectangle layer.

use your magic wand to select the area outside the white rectangle.

hit delete on the bottom tube layer and select none.

hide the white rectangle layer again.

now that all the basics are done, add any elements, text and tubes.

don't forget to add artist credit and license info.

when you're all done, copy special > copy merged. 

paste as a new image and use your magic wand tool to select outside the tag. 

invert selection and crop to selection. 

that will get rid of any extra space that you don't need.
