2 Cups Sugar

1 1/4 Cup Water

Zest and Juice of 1 Lemon

Vegetable Oil for frying

1 1/2 Cups All-Purpose Flour

2 Tbsp. Baking Powder

4 Tbsp. Unsalted Butter

1/4 Cup Milk

Pinch of Salt

Put the sugar and water into a sauce pan and heat until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice and zest; pour syrup into a bowl and let cool.

Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Using a pastry cutter, combine the butter with the flour until the butter is well incorporated.

Add in the milk and mix your dough together until it becomes smooth. Let rest for 15 minutes.

Make the dough into 12 uniform balls and cut each ball into three strips, braid those strips together making sure the edges are secure.

Fry the braids for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown on each side.

Remove from oil and dredge into syrup, them place on a cooling rack stacked on top of a cookie sheet to catch excess syrup.
