God is dead
Translated by: Francesco Ciabattoni
I have seen the people of my generation walk away
on roads leading nowhere
pursuing a dream that leads to folly
seeking something they can’t find in the world they know
in nights soaked in wine,
in rooms transformed by pills
along clouds of smoke in the world made of cities,
being against swallowing this worn-out civilization
[seeking out] a God that is dead, at the road sides God is dead
in cars paid in installments God is dead,
in the myths of summer God is dead…
They told me this generation does not believe anymore
in what has often been hidden behind faith
in the eternal myths of the Fatherland and heroes
because the time has come to fight all falsehood
fight a faith that is made only of habit and fear,
fight politics made only of careerism,
conformism based on interest, dignity made of emptiness
the hypocrisy of those who side with the winner, never with the loser
God is dead, in extermination camps God is dead
with the myth of race God is dead
with political hatred God is dead…
But I think that this generation of mine is well prepared
for a new world and a new-born hope
for a future it already holds in its hand, for a peaceful revolution,
because we know that if god dies it’s just for three days
and then he returns, in what we do God is reborn,
in what we pursue God is reborn,
in the world we will build God is reborn…
