Ballo per l'onore
Ballo per l'onore (I dance for honor), is a song in the dialect of Ciociaria, a subregion of Lazio south east of Rome. The song originates from a terrible episode as Anna Di Lorenzo recounts: The French general Juin, at the end of the battle of Cassino, in the Second World War, gave his "goumiers" (Moroccan military) carte blanche for two days, as a prize of victory which implied the right of life and death over the civilian populations of the Ciociaria, a sub-region south east of Rome, the theft of their property and violence against women (the so-called "Moroccan"). So for two days and two nights they raided, raped, killed. They raped women and girls, forcing fathers and husbands to assist them. Anyone who tried to fight back was killed.
Il generale francese Juin, al termine della battaglia di Cassino, nella seconda guerra mondiale, diede ai suoi “goumiers” (militari marocchini) carta bianca per due giorni, come premio della vittoria che implicava il diritto di vita e di morte sulle popolazioni civili della Ciociaria, sub regione a sud est di Roma, il furto dei loro beni e la violenza sulle donne (le cosiddette "marocchinate"). La ciociara is a 1960 film directed by Vittorio De Sica. The subject is an adaptation by Vittorio De Sica and Cesare Zavattini from the novel of the same name written by Alberto Moravia; although the events are fictional, it is easy to see similarities with the episodes of violence against civilians by the allied troops, perpetrated during the Italian Campaign.
The film stars Sophia Loren, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Eleonora Brown, Carlo Ninchi and Andrea Checchi. For her portrayal, Sophia Loren won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. The English language version is titled "Two Women"
La ciociara è un film del 1960 diretto da Vittorio De Sica. Il soggetto è un adattamento di Vittorio De Sica e Cesare Zavattini dall'omonimo romanzo scritto da Alberto Moravia; nonostante le vicende siano romanzate è facile ravvisare analogie con gli episodi di violenza sui civili da parte delle truppe alleate, perpetrati durante la Campagna d'Italia.[1]
La pellicola è interpretata da Sophia Loren, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Eleonora Brown, Carlo Ninchi e Andrea Checchi. Per la sua interpretazione, Sophia Loren vinse il premio Oscar alla migliore attrice protagonista. La versione in lingua inglese è intitolata “Two Women”
