Cielito Lindo
Cielito Lindo is a traditional Mexican song written by Quirino Mendoza y Cortes in 1882. It is one of the most popular songs widely known throughout the Spanish-speaking world as a symbol of Mexico. In recent years it has become an unofficial national anthem for Mexicans, sung as a sign of unity. It is sung spontaneously in sports games, particularly at soccer games, as well as protests and every kind of gathering where love for Mexico is expressed. (https://www.inside-mexico.com/ )
Cielito Lindo
De la Sierra Morena,
cielito lindo, vienen bajando,
Un par de ojitos negros,
cielito lindo, de contrabando.
Estribillo:
Ay, ay, ay, ay,
Canta y no llores,
Porque cantando se alegran,
cielito lindo, los corazones.
Pájaro que abandona,
cielito lindo, su primer nido,
Si lo encuentra ocupado,
cielito lindo, bien merecido.
(Estribillo)
Ese lunar que tienes,
cielito lindo, junto a la boca,
No se lo des a nadie,
cielito lindo, que a mí me toca.
(Estribillo)
Una flecha en el aire,
cielito lindo, lanzó Cupido,
si la tiró jugando,
cielito lindo, a mí me ha herido.
(Estribillo)
English translation:
From the Sierra Morena,
lovely heaven, coming down is
A pair of lovely black eyes,
lovely heaven, sneaking by.
Chorus:
Ay, ay, ay, ay,
Sing and don’t cry,
Because by singing our hearts are happy, lovely heaven.
A bird that abandons,
its first nest, lovely heaven,
If he finds it occupied,
lovely heaven, it will be well deserved.
(Chorus)
That beauty mark that you have
lovely heaven, next to your mouth,
Don’t give it to anyone,
lovely heaven, for it is mine.
(Chorus)
An arrow in the air
lovely darling, Cupid launched
if he was playing,
lovely heaven, he has stricken me.
(Chorus)
