“Denial (Greek: Άρνηση) is a poem by Giorgos Seferis (1900-1971) published in his collection Turning Point ("Strophe") in 1931. After the coup that overthrew the Greek government in 1967, Seferis went into voluntary seclusion and many of his poems were banned, including the musical versions which Mikis Theodorakis had written and arranged. Denial came t

“Chi di noi conosce questa canzone solo per averla ascoltata senza conoscerne il testo, probabilmente la ritiene una canzone d’amore, tanto è intenso il pathos che la permea. E’ d’amore, certo: ma per gli ideali e per la passione riversati in una lotta rivelatasi impossibile. Per questo ho tradotto il “ti pothos ke ti pathos” (“che desiderio che passione”) con il leopardiano “che speranze, che cori”. Una soluzione troppo letteraria, forse: ma sono ancora convinto che sia una buona soluzione” Gian Piero Testa (da “Canzoni contro la guerra”)
