(Jean Villard “Gilles” – 1939 1945)
Famous French song composed by the Swiss-French Jean Villard (1939) and spread throughout the world with arrangements by Edith Piaff and the "Compagnons de la chanson" (1945). In the 1950s, the version by "The Browns" entitled "The Three Bells" was released in the USA with partially different lyrics. Various other artists have subsequently covered this song in both French and English with success. There have also been other translations into various languages up to the present day.
