With the recent lockdowns in Toronto due to COVID, we have all felt the loss of not being able to eat at restaurants (even if it was outdoors), shopping in stores or getting a haircut at the hair salon. For many of us, shopping and eating out was an escape from our otherwise mundane life.
Yet, all is not lost. We can still find delicious food, fabulous holiday gifts and beauty products and more for pick up or delivery! Also, it is especially important during these hard times to support smaller Toronto businesses who are suffering economically.
Below are some links that may help with discovering what our City has to offer on-line, by delivery and curbside:
The best delivery and takeout in Toronto | Foodism TO
This website includes restaurants throughout the entire City that are offering takeout or delivery from bagels to Italian to Japanese. Many of the restaurants appear to be on the higher price side, but this is not the case for all of them. I have not heard of many of the restaurants (except Pizza Libretto which has very yummy pizza), but the food is unique, well presented and looks scrumptious.
Food
The best food takeout and delivery in Toronto according to NOW readers (nowtoronto.com)
This website includes a wide variety of food winners by the 2020 Reader’s Choice Poll that are available for take out and delivery. Best food is in multiple categories and includes: African, BBQ, Breakfast/Brunch, Burger, Burrito, Cafe, Wings, Chinese, Dessert and more. The list is long and I have no doubt that you will find a delicious dish that will excite your taste buds.
Fashion, Gift stores and Bookstores
30 stores now open for curbside pickup in Toronto (blogto.com)
This Blog TO Fashion and Style article was posted 6 months ago with 30 stores that were open for curbside pickup. With a lockdown again in place, I expect that many of these stores will be offering the same service. They are smaller businesses with many on Queen street or in the West end. They range from fashion (some vintage stores) to music and bookstores, art and supply stores and even home and design. Check it out, you may find that unique gift.
Yorkdale Curbside Pickup
Curbside Pickup - Yorkdale Shopping Centre - Fashion & Services in Toronto
Yorkdale is offering curbside pickup at various locations through the mall. There are roughly 90 stores participating which includes: fashion (women’s and men’s), jewellery, bags, athletic wear, shoes, and department stores (eg. Holt Renfrew and Nordstrom). I have no doubt that there is something for everyone at Yorkdale.
Coronavirus: Toronto bookstores offering delivery - NOW Magazine (nowtoronto.com)
Perhaps this holiday season you may find some time to read a book with vacations off the table. There are many local bookstores (close to the school neighborhood) that are offering curbside pick up service or delivery. They include: Type, Book City, Mabel’s Fables, Beguiling (comics and graphic novels) and more. Imagine the thrill of the teachers in the English Department to find out that you read a non-school book!
