Timothy Bryan Muggeridge rode ten winners over jumps during a career spread over seven seasons. The son of former National Hunt jockey Frank Muggeridge, who enjoyed plenty of success as a trainer from his stable at Romney, in Hampshire, Tim was one of three brothers who rode winners for the father, the others being Russell and Menin. The latter, who died in 2024, also trained after retiring from the saddle.
Tim had his first ride in public at Newton Abbot on Easter Monday, March 31, 1975, when Deroak finished fifth out of a field of 15 in the Brookside Selling Handicap Hurdle. Almost a year elapsed before he opened his account, but at Devon & Exeter on March 27, 1976, he finally had his first win when the seven-year-old Census, trained by his father, beat 23 others to land the Hawkins Opportunity Selling Handicap Hurdle, running on strongly from the last flight to beat Sea Picture by two lengths.
He rode his second and third winners the following month but progress thereafter was slow and he never had more than three wins in a season. His father supplied six of his ten career wins, with another former jump jockey, Pat Mitchell, adding another two.
Tim’s final win was at Devon & Exeter on April 2, 1982, and it was in the same race in which he had ridden his first winner six years earlier, the Hawkins Opportunity Selling Hurdle, This time it was on the five-year-old Lynwood Lady, taking the lead on the flat and running on to take the prize by a length and a half. Tim and his brother Russell had shared rides on Lynwood Lady during the season, and it was the latter who triumphed on her at the same course on May 3.
Four weeks later, also at Devon & Exeter, Tim had his final ride when The Old Feller was always struggling in the Tariq and Norah Handicap Hurdle.
