Paul Moloney
Irish jockey Paul Moloney, who hails from New Inn, Ballydoyle, Co Tipperary was born on 17 October 1978. He started his riding career in Ireland and was heavily involved in hunting and show-jumping and rode his first point-to-point winner for trainer Danny O’Connell in 1996.

Much of his school holidays were spent at the yard of Jim Bolger and it was here he worked alongside Tony McCoy and leading flat rider Ted Duncan, before joining forces with Michael Hourigan for whom he rode his first three winners.

He soon established himself as one of the leading amateur jockeys in Ireland and in 1998/99 shared the Champion Amateur Jockey title with Philip Fenton.

Relocating to Britain he had a short stint with Yogi Breisner before turning professional. He is now a regular jockey for Evan Williams and the partnership have enjoyed much success, amongst others he has ridden for JP McManus and Jessica Harrington, for whom he also helps to school horses.

In the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Grand Nationals Paul Moloney was aboard the Evan Williams trained State Of Play, steering him to finish in the first four on each occasion. His best place so far was finishing in third position in 2010.

In 2012 trainer Evan Williams changed Paul Moloney’s mount to Cappa Bleu who was placed third in the 2011 Welsh Grand National. Another success was on the cards as Moloney and the 10-year-old Cappa Bleu romped home in 4th place.

On the back of the 2012 success in the National, Paul Moloney was once again on board Capp Bleu and became a firm punters favourite. Their support was duly rewarded as Paul Moloney went on to finish second, behind Auroras Encore and placed for the fifth year in a row.
