Stephen James McDougall rode one winner in three consecutive jumps seasons in the 1990s.
He was a conditional jockey for Duns, Berwickshire trainer Tom Kemp and had his first victory on his four-year-old Swift Conveyance, who lived up to his name by landing the E.B.F. N.H. Novices’ Hurdle Qualifier on the all-weather at Southwell on October 16, 1993, taking the lead at the seventh flight and scoring by 15 lengths.
His second win came on Boxing Day 1994 when D’Arblay Street proved far too good for nine rivals in the John Wade Novices’ Hurdle at Sedgefield, the five-year-old coming home ten lengths clear.
D’Arblay Street also provided Stephen with his final success when Taking the Gus Carter Handicap Hurdle back at Sedgefield on March 5, 1996. This time the winning margin was 12 lengths. However, their next two starts together yielded only one fourth place. Although Stephen continued to ride for at least three more seasons, there was no further success.
