Richard Geoffrey Arthur Milner rode two winners, both in bumpers, the first coming at Newbury on April 1, 1989, when Peter Piper beat 17 rivals to land the Spring N.H. Flat Race (Division 1).
The five-year-old Peter Piper, trained by Nicky Henderson, for whom Richard rode as a conditional, took the lead over a furlong from home and ran on to beat the favourite Venom by three lengths. It was the gelding’s first start under rules and he did not run again until the following January.
By that time Richard had recorded his second, and final, victory when Royal Cause made virtually all the running and held off the challenge of Up The Cherries to take the ‘Bad Penny’ N.H. Flat Race on the all-weather at Lingfield Park on January 3, 1990 by a head. The pair returned to Lingfield three weeks later but this time they were unplaced.
Richard had a few more rides thereafter but no more winners.
