Archie McIntyre

American jockey Archibald ‘Archie’ McIntyre was born in East New Durham, New Jersey on June 5, 1880. He became apprenticed to trainer S. C. Hildreth when aged 12 and remained with him for six years before moving briefly to the stable of ‘Lucky’ Baldwin.

Archie left America to ride in France in 1900 where he quickly became established as a leading jockey. He was a frequent visitor to Britain and scored his greatest success here in the 1903 Ascot Gold Cup on Maximum II.

That was the last year he rode in Britain.
