John Murray

Australian jockey John Alexander Murray spent two summers riding in Britain, based in Yorkshire with Sherriff Hutton trainer Mick Easterby. He rode his first British winner on Mel’s Choice in a five-furlong handicap at Beverley on May 14, 1982.

He scored his two biggest victories on Errolls Boy in the Singleton Handicap at Glorious Goodwood on July 28, and Top O’ The North in the Listed Champion Two-Year-Old Trophy at Ripon on August 30, 1982. Both horses were trained by Mick Easterby.

John came back to Britain in 1983 but relinquished his licence midway through the season and returned to Australia.
