James Mann

James, the son of jockey Samuel (who rode the infamous Running Rein), was born at Ascot.

He rode one classic winner - Tormentor in the 1866 Oaks.

He also won the 1867 Portland on Bounceaway.

His brother was George Henry Mann, who won the 1852 Ascot Gold Cup on Joe Miller.

After a lingering illness, James died at Newmarket on October 1, 1871, aged 40.
