George Morgan rode eight winners under National Hunt rules in the first decade of the 20th century.

His initial success came at the Banbury Hunt fixture on April 18, 1902, when his mount Working Man dead heated with Hollyhurst, ridden by George Wilson, at the end of the Banbury Town Handicap Chase. George was riding the four-year-old Working Man for the first and only time. The horse finished second ten days later at Keele Park under top amateur Jack Rogers and was then sold to race in Sweden.

George had three wins in 1903 but drew a blank the following year, before gaining a further win in 1905 following the disqualification of Extravagance, first past the post in the Rugeley Selling Chase at Wolverhampton on December 27 for carrying the wrong weight, leading to the promotion of George’s mount Conroy II.

There were no wins for the next three years but he returned in 1909 to land three more, the final one being the second leg of a double at Colwall Park on October 4. Having won the first race of the day, the Stewards’ Handicap Hurdle on Rent Roll, he bookended the card by landing the last race, the British Camp Handicap Chase on Misty Light, beating The Compass, ridden by Bill Payne, by three-quarters of a length.

He had his final ride when finishing second on Shimmering in the Sefton Maiden Hurdle at Southwell on March 21, 1910, beaten one and a half lengths by John Nightingall on Delagoa Bay.

George Morgan’s winners were, in chronological order:
