Frank Musgrave

Frank Musgrave was a farmer and one-horse permit trainer based at Edder Acres Farm, Shotton Colliery, in County Durham. His one horse was a two-mile chaser named Denetop Pride, whom he owned, trained and rode to victory four times.

They won their first race together, a novice chase, on the Saturday of Carlisle’s 1965 Easter meeting. The following season they won the Sedgefield Handicap Chase and were placed on five other occasions.

They combined no less than 18 times during the 1966/67 campaign, winning twice, the Black Lion Handicap Chase at Sedgefield on December 10 and the Scotch Corner Handicap Chase at Catterick on New Year’s Eve. They also finished second three times.

Sadly, Denetop Pride suffered a fatal injury when falling at the ninth fence at Carlisle on May 8, 1967.

In the early 1970s, Frank owned, trained and rode a novice hurdler named Miss Denetop. They were placed on six occasions but never quite managed to win.

Frank Musgrave’s winners were:

1. Denetop Pride, Carlisle, April 17, 1965

2. Denetop Pride, Sedgefield, January 29, 1966

3. Denetop Pride, Sedgefield, December 10, 1966

4. Denetop Pride, Catterick Bridge, December 31, 1966
