Mark Patrick Moran was a conditional with former jump jockey turned successful trainer Philip Hobbs and rode three winners under National Hunt rules in the mid-1990s.
His first success was a comfortable victory on Credo Boy, trained by Kevin Bishop, in the Bonusprint Conditional Stakes N.H. Flat Race at Wincanton on February 23, 1995, scoring by 25 lengths. It was Mark’s first ride on the six-year-old and they could only finish 11th of 22 runners on their only other start together at Sandown’s Grand Military meeting the following month.
Philip Hobbs supplied Mark’s second winner when Shirley’s Train survived some “precarious jumping” (according to Chaseform) to take the Red Brewster Novices’
Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at Newton Abbot on July 31, 1995.
More than a year passed before Mark had his third, and final, win when Feeling Foolish, also trained by Philip Hobbs, led approaching the last flight and ran on strongly to beat Plinth by three lengths in the Chichester Novices’ Handicap Hurdle at Fontwell Park on August 26, 1996. It was the seven-year-old’s final start, while Mark had no further success despite having nearly a dozen rides that season.
Mark Moran’s winners were, in chronological order:
1. Credo Boy, Wincanton, February 23, 1995
2. Shirley’s Train, Newton Abbot, July 31, 1995
3. Feeling Foolish, Fontwell Park, August 26, 1996
